In a heart-stopping moment during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 clash between Islamabad United and Karachi Kings, the captain of Islamabad, Shadab Khan, and the prolific batter Alex Hales found themselves entangled in a dramatic collision. The incident unfolded on Wednesday (February 28) at the National Stadium in Karachi.

In the closing moments of the 20th over, bowled by Hunain Shah, Kieron Pollard seized the opportunity presented by a full toss, delivering a powerful drive down the ground. Positioned strategically, Alex Hales at long off and Shadab Khan at long on sprinted with determination to intercept the ball before it could cross the boundary.

Despite Hales managing to make contact with the ball, the collision with Shadab proved costly as the catch slipped from their grasp. A brief moment of concern followed, prompting the physio to intervene. However, both players demonstrated their resilience by swiftly recovering, showcasing their unwavering commitment to the game as they briskly returned to the dugout

Karachi Kings’ fighting display with the bat

In the match, Islamabad won the toss and opted to bowl. Karachi faced an early setback as Tim Seifert departed for just eight runs. Shan Masood and Leus du Plooy managed to stabilize the innings momentarily, adding 40 runs for the second wicket. Nevertheless, wickets continued to fall, with the Kings losing five by the time they reached 89 runs on the board.

A pivotal partnership between Pollard and Irfan Khan revitalized the Karachi’s innings, propelling them to a score of 165 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. Pollard’s unbeaten 48 off 28 deliveries played a significant role, while Imad Wasim, Naseem Shah, Agha Salman and Hunain Shah contributed with a wicket each for Islamabad.

Colin Munro and Alex Hales lead the charge

In response, Islamabad’s Colin Munro and Hales formed a formidable partnership of 108 runs for the first wicket. Hales showcased his prowess with 47 runs off 35 deliveries before his dismissal in the 12th over. Munro continued the onslaught, amassing an impressive 82 runs off 47 deliveries before departing in the 15th over.

The lower order, featuring Salman and skipper Shadab, secured the victory for Islamabad. Their partnership of 30 runs for the fourth wicket ensured the team crossed the finish line with seven wickets in hand and 18.3 overs to spare, showcasing a well-rounded performance by the entire team.
