IPL 2022: Yuvraj Singh raises eyebrows over Pat Cummins’ exclusion from KKR’s playing XI

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), under the fresh leadership of Shreyas Iyer, started well in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. But after a decent start to their campaign, the Knight Riders seem to have lost the rhythm, resulting in their five back-to-back losses in the competition.

With too many doubts hovering around the chances of playoffs for the two-time champions, former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has questioned KKR’s approach regarding the non-selection of their premium fast bowler Pat Cummins.

Notably, Cummins, who missed a few games at the start of the fifteenth season due to international commitments, began his journey with joint-fastest IPL fifty, smashing 50 off 14 balls to take KKR to a memorable victory over Mumbai Indians (MI).

But, the Aussie pacer has since then failed to make an impact for KKR, especially with the ball. And that could be one of the reasons why Cummins was dropped from the playing XI in the last couple of matches.

Yuvraj, however, reckoned that Cummins is a world-class all-rounder and a sure shot match-winner. The Chandigarh-born observed that the New South Wales speedster shouldn’t be dropped from the playing XI just because he had a few bad games.

“I’m so surprised to see @patcummins30 sit out unless he’s injured ? World class all rounder. If someone has had 2 3 tough games, does it mean u stop believing in your match winners? cause they can win you 3 in a row aswell !! Just my opinion #DCvKKR,” Yuvraj wrote on the micro-blogging website Twitter.

After KKR’s recent loss against Delhi Capitals (DC), senior fast bowler Tim Southee admitted that ‘chopping and changing’ is not ideal for a team, but they have been forced to try out different combinations due to consecutive defeats.

“We’ve tried a few opening combinations, and there are no bad players in the IPL, they’re all class acts. The guys who’ve opened have pure class as well. So, it’s just about guys finding form and running with guys who’ve found form. The chopping and changing nature isn’t ideal, but that happens when you aren’t winning a lot of games,” said Southee after the match.
