Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers shared his sorrow following Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) elimination from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. RCB were defeated by Rajasthan Royals (RR) by four wickets in the Eliminator match held on Wednesday, May 22, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, resulting in their departure from the tournament.

A season of dramatic ups and downs

The RCB team, led by Faf du Plessis, had a rough start, winning only one of their first eight games and almost getting eliminated in the group stage. However, the Challengers made an incredible comeback, winning their next six matches to qualify for the playoffs. Despite their impressive turnaround, their campaign ended in the knockout match against the Royals.

AB de Villiers’ emotional post

After RCB’s defeat, De Villiers, who played for the franchise from 2011 to 2021, posted his thoughts on social media. The 40-year-old conveyed his disappointment but also commended the team for their remarkable effort and perseverance.

“It’s always painful to lose. But as a fan, I’m proud of the boys for making us believe, even when all hope seemed lost at the start of May. I’m sure #RCB will come back stronger next year and bring home that elusive title. 💪 âä️ #IPL2024,” wrote de Villiers on X.
