During the 57th match of the IPL 2024 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Nitish Reddy of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) executed a breathtaking catch to dismiss Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) opening batter Quinton de Kock. The catch, which was grabbed in the first innings of the game, was crucial in setting back LSG early in their innings.

Nitish Reddy’s brilliance at the boundary

The incident took place on the first ball of the second over, bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. De Kock, attempting to whip a length ball over backward square leg, ended up giving a high catch towards deep backward square leg where Nitish Reddy was positioned. Displaying remarkable composure and athletic skill, Reddy timed his jump exquisitely, catching the ball mid-air. Realizing his momentum was carrying him towards the boundary rope, Reddy ingeniously lobbed the ball up, stepped over the rope, and returned to complete the catch inside the field of play.

The on-field umpires referred the catch to the third umpire to ensure its legality. After a brief review, it was confirmed as a clean catch, prompting de Kock to walk off the field, having scored just 2 runs off 5 deliveries. This dismissal added another early wicket loss for LSG, putting them on the back foot from the outset.
