Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) scripted history in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 with a staggering total of 277/3 against Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 08 of the ongoing season. Eventually, SRH claimed a thrilling 31-run victory in a power-packed showdown at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The match witnessed an onslaught of power-hitting, leaving spectators spellbound and bowlers struggling to contain the fierce onslaught.

Abhishek Sharma’s spectacular performance

Among the standout performers of the match was the left-handed batter from Sunrisers, Abhishek Sharma, who showcased his prowess with the bat in a scintillating display. Abhishek’s blistering knock of 63 runs off just 23 deliveries, embellished with 3 boundaries and 7 towering sixes, electrified the stadium. His half-century, achieved in a mere 16 balls, etched his name in the annals of IPL history as the fastest fifty by any SRH batter.

Yuvraj Singh adds flavor with his banter

In a moment of light-hearted banter, former Indian cricketer and Abhishek’s mentor, Yuvraj Singh, playfully teased the young prodigy despite his stellar performance on the field. Yuvraj, known for his wit and humor, couldn’t resist poking fun at Sharma for the manner of his dismissal. Abhishek was dismissed after he went for a glory shot against veteran MI spinner Piyush Chawla.

“Waah sir Abhishek waah, great innings but what a splendid shot to get out on! Laaton ke bhoot baaton se nahi maante! Special (slipper emoji) waiting for you now @IamAbhiSharma4,” wrote Yuvraj on X.

Abhishek’s special bond with Yuvraj

The camaraderie between Abhishek and Yuvraj has long been admired in the cricketing fraternity. Following Abhishek’s exceptional performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20s, where he emerged as the second-highest run-scorer of the tournament with a tally of 485 runs during Punjab’s triumphant campaign, the young batter attributed much of his success to the guidance of Yuvraj.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Abhishek expressed gratitude towards his mentor, acknowledging Yuvraj’s pivotal role in shaping both his personal and professional life.

“Whatever technical adjustments I needed, it was done by Yuvi paaji… I get a lot of boost after talking to him. Even off the field, no one can get a better guide than Yuvraj Singh,” Abhishek had said.
