The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 dates are out with Chennai Super Kings playing Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first match in Chennai on March 22. However, one of the clashes that all will be eager to see is the match between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans on March 24. Gujarat Titans will be led by new captain Shubman Gill after it former captain Hardik Pandya left for Mumbai Indians. Pandya is now the skipper of Mumbai Indians. The subplots make the contest a spicy one.

While GT has been pegged back by departures and injuries of key stars, they picked some impactful players from the IPL auction. Robin Minz is one such player. Robin Minz, a promising tribal cricketer from Jharkhand, grabbed headlines during the auction.  The 21-year-old, with a base price of Rs 20 lakh, garnered significant attention from various franchises, leading to a competitive bidding scenario that ultimately saw him joining the Gujarat Titans for Rs 3.60 crore. Known for his big-hitting abilities, Minz is a left-handed batter and a devoted fan of MS Dhoni. His cricketing journey is guided by the experienced coach Chanchal Bhattacharya, who also mentored the former Indian captain.

Robin ‘s father Francis Xavier Minz is a security guard at the Birsa Munda International Airport in Ranchi. Francis, who served in the army for nearly two decades, has no intentions of quitting his job, despite the financial benefits of son’s IPL contract. Recently when the Indian cricket team and England cricket teams arrived in Ranchi for the fourth test, he was on duty.

“I cannot be lax because my son is an IPL cricketer. Of course, there is more financial security in the family, but you never know how life would turn out to be. A lot of my colleagues ask me why I need to work anymore. But I tell them I will keep working as long as I feel like working and I am healthy. I don’t get sleep if I haven’t earned something for myself,” Minz told the Indian Express in Ranchi.

“I see everyone coming out of the airport, but hardly anyone notices me. Why should they? I’m just a security guy here, one of the many.”

In a pleasant surprise, Gujarat Titans skipper, who is playing in the Test series against England, went and met him at the Ranchi airport. the two talked about IPL, Indian cricket and Gujarat Titans.
