In a thrilling encounter at the W.A.C.A. Ground, the Perth Scorchers Women took on the Sydney Sixers Women in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2023. The Perth-based team emerged victorious in the contest by a convincing margin of 36 runs.

Beth Mooney and Alana King guide Perth Scorchers to a competitive total

Asked to bat first, the Scorchers started their innings with a solid batting display. Opener Chloe Piparo contributed 20 runs off 14 balls, setting the tone early. Beth Mooney continued the momentum with 32 runs off 25 deliveries, and Amy Jones added 28 runs off 19 balls. Alana King provided a late surge with 33 runs off just 14 balls, including a six.

Ashleigh Gardner picks a brilliant four-fer for Sydney Sixers

Sydney Sixers Women’s bowlers gave it their all, with Ashleigh Gardner being the standout, taking three wickets for 38 runs in her four-over spell. Linsey Smith and Lauren Cheatle also chipped in with crucial wickets.

Ellyse Perry’s effort in vain as Sydney Sixers fall short of the target

In reply, the Sixers faced a tough challenge. Ellyse Perry played a remarkable innings, scoring 59 runs off 48 balls, but her efforts couldn’t carry the team to victory. Suzie Bates contributed 18 runs, and Chloe Tryon managed 16 runs, but they couldn’t find the necessary support.

Amy Edgar’s four-wicket haul for Perth Scorchers

The Perth Scorchers’ bowlers performed exceptionally well, with Amy Edgar leading the charge by taking four wickets for 19 runs in her 4-over spell. Alana King and Sophie Devine also contributed with crucial wickets. Their combined efforts restricted the Sixers to 130/9. Alana was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for her brilliant all-round performance.

In the end, it was a convincing victory for the Perth Scorchers Women, and they now sit on the fourth spot at the points table with two wins in four games.
