Ashes 2023 [WATCH]: Cameron Green takes a stunner to dismiss Ben Stokes on Day 3 of the Lord’s Test

News

Australian bowlers dominated Day 3 of the second Ashes 2023 Test at Lord’s and restricted England 91 runs behind their first innings total.

Resuming their innings on 278/4, England failed terribly to maintain the momentum and were bowled out for 325 in 76.2 overs. The first wicket to fall for the hosts on Day 3 was of their skipper Ben Stokes courtesy of a brilliant catch by Aussie all-rounder Cameron Green.

It all happened on the second ball of the day when Mitchell Starc delivered a searing delivery to Stokes. The England captain attempted to flick the ball towards the leg side but ended up with a thick outside edge. The ball flew with rapid speed to the gully region, where Green displayed remarkable reflexes and athleticism. Green reacted quickly, diving full stretch to his right, and plucked the ball out of thin air to complete a stunning catch.

Stokes was visibly disappointed and shook his head in disbelief as he made his way back to the pavilion. Meanwhile, Green celebrated his remarkable catch with a broad smile on his face, receiving well-deserved appreciation from his teammates.

Speaking of the match, soon after the departure of Stokes, wickets fell like a house of cards for England, and they found it difficult to keep going. The Australian bowlers exploited the vulnerability of the English batting lineup, consistently putting them under pressure with their accuracy and variations. The relentless bowling attack proved too much for the English batters to handle, resulting in them getting bundled out.

Starc finished as the most successful bowler for Australia in the innings, claiming three wickets. The three dismissals by the left-arm seamer also included the priced wicket of Harry Brook (50), who was batting well for the English side. On the other hand, Josh Hazlewood and Travis Head bagged two scalps each.
