Day 2 of the second Test between Bangladesh and India saw wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant falling short of a deserving century but his counterattacking 93-run knock in Mirpur helped India take a 87-run lead after the first innings.

The 159-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Pant and Shreyas Iyer (87) was the only highlight of the Indian innings as their top-order batters threw wickets away after making good starts. Both Pant and Iyer were heading towards their respective ton when a disciplined spin bowling performance from the home team saw them reap the rewards towards the end. Four-wicket-hauls from skipper Shakib Al Hasan and left-arm spinner Taijul Islam helped Bangladesh in preventing India from taking a huge lead as the KL Rahul-led side got all-out for 314.

In their second innings, the hosts did well to finish the day without losing any wickets in a six-ball period. They will now be looking to continue their resistance on Day 3.

Here is the video of Rishabh Pant’s 93-run knock:

Brief scores: Bangladesh 227 & 7-0, trail India 314 (Rishabh Pant 93, Shreyas Iyer 87; Taijul Islam 4/75, Shakib al Hasan 4/79) by 80 runs.
