IPL 2023: Star Sports unveils commentary panel for mini-auction

Star Sports – the official broadcaster of the Indian Premier League (IPL) – has revealed its commentary panel for the upcoming auction. Star Sports unveiled the complete line-up of panelists for five different feeds – English, Hindi, Tamil, Telegu and Kannada.

The Hindi feed will feature experts like Aakash Chopra, Irfan Pathan and Amol Mazumdar, along with Jatin Sapru on the Star Sports show ‘Cricket Live – Auction Special’. Similarly, the English panel will feature West Indies great Ian Bishop, Australia’s T20 World Cup-winning captain Aaron Finch, former IPL coaches Tom Moody, Simon Katich and David Hussey, along with anchor Mayanti Langer.

The Tamil feed will see former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) players Lakshmipathy Balaji, Subramaniam Badrinath and ex-Indian cricketer, Sadagoppan Ramesh. Likewise, the Telugu feed will have Venugopal Rao, MSK Prasad and Ashish Reddy. When it comes to the Kannada feed, it will feature Vijay Bharadwaj, Srinivas Murthy and Balachandra Akhil.

Notably, the players’ bidding event will take place in Kochi on Friday, December 23. As many as 405 cricketers will go under the hammer, of which 119 are capped, 282 are uncapped, and four belong to associate nations. This also includes 273 Indian players and 132 overseas stars.

Further, for this auction, 87 slots are available in total, among which 30 are reserved for international players. The highest reserve price bracket is INR 2 crore, which comprises 19 overseas players.

Regarding the purse details, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have the highest amount left, i.e. INR 42.25 crore, followed by Punjab Kings (PBKS) INR 32.20 crore and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) INR 23.35 crore. Similarly, Mumbai Indians (MI) have INR 20.55 crore in their purse, and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have 20.45 crore left. Delhi Capitals (DC) have INR 19.45 crore in their purse, followed by Gujarat Titans INR 19.25 crore, Rajasthan Royals (RR) INR 13.2 crore, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) INR 8.75 crore and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) INR 7.05 crore.
