Team India have continued their domination in the red-ball format, beating Bangladesh in the first Test at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram to go 1-0 up in the two-match series. On the final day, it took India only about fifty minutes to pick the last four wickets and finish the proceedings.

Mehidy Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan, the two overnight batters, showed their intention of counterattack right from the beginning, but it couldn’t stay long enough as Mohammed Siraj dismissed Mehidy when the batter tried to drive Siraj uppishly to backward point.

Shakib, however, continued his attacking approach, particularly against Axar Patel, as the all-rounder swept and lofted Axar for sixes to bring up a quick fifty. Shakib kept on finding odd boundaries en route to his 84. India kept the field up, eventually paying off as Shakib was cleaned up while trying to sweep Kuldeep Yadav.

Post the Shakib dismissal, the last two wickets fell in quick succession as the tourists ended up registering a massive 188-run win and acquired third place in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 standings.

Kuldeep was the star with the ball for India as he bagged his best-ever match figures of 8/113 and won the Player of the Match award.

Brief scores: India 404 (Cheteshwar Pujara 90, Shreyas Iyer 86; Taijul Islam 4/133, Mehidy Hasan Miraz 4/113) and 258/2 decl (Shubman Gill 110, Cheteshwar Pujara 102*) beat Bangladesh 150 (Mushfiqur Rahim 28; Kuldeep Yadav 5/40) and 324 (Zakir Hasan 100, Shakib Al Hasan 84; Axar Patel 4/77, Kuldeep 3/73) by 188 runs.
