Team India captain Rohit Sharma was sent to a Dhaka hospital for an x-ray after hurting his left thumb while fielding in the second ODI of the three-match series against Bangladesh in Mirpur on Wednesday, December 7.
The injury occurred on the fourth delivery of the second over, bowled by Mohammed Siraj, as Rohit – fielding in the slip cordon – attempted a catch to dismiss Bangladesh opener Anamul Haque and, in the process, hurt his thumb. The Indian skipper was immediately taken off the field and replaced by Rajat Patidar.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also confirmed via Twitter about Rohit’s injury, with the update that the 35-year-old was soon sent for scans.

Vice-captain KL Rahul took over the charge in Rohit’s absence. During the 39th over of the first innings, the TV commentators said that Rohit has come back from the hospital, but he did not return to the field.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh posted 271 for the loss of 7 wickets in their full quota of 50 overs. Last match hero Mehidy Hasan Miraz smashed his maiden ODI hundred off just 83 balls, while former Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah made 77 from 97 deliveries. Both batters took their side out of hot water (69-6 to 217-7) by adding 148 runs for the seventh wicket.
