South Africa defeated India in a low-scoring thriller at Optus Stadium in Perth on Sunday and put Pakistan’s hopes of making it to the semi-final of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 in danger.

Chasing the paltry target of 134, South Africa were in a spot of bother after losing three wickets for 24 inside the powerplay. Then, Aiden Markram and David Miller joined hands to bring the Proteas into the contest.

The duo went on to form a breathtaking partnership of 74 runs for the fourth wicket and took South Africa close to the finish. Though Markram was dismissed at 52 in the 16th over, Miller kept his stand alive and took South Africa over the finish line with an unbeaten knock of 59 from 48 deliveries, including 4 fours and 3 sixes.

Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav guided India to a decent total after all other batters failed to perform against a quality pace attack of South Africa. Despite wickets falling at one end, Surya kept his calm and continued hitting to ensure India reached at least a competitive total.

Suryakuamar smashed 68 from 40 deliveries, with the help of 6 fours and three sixes, before falling in the penultimate over. Lungi Ngidi and Wayne Parnell shined with the ball for the Proteas, picking four and three wickets, respectively.

While Ngidi bagged four scalps for 29 runs in 4 overs, Parnell picked up three wickets for 15 runs in 4 overs, including a maiden.
