Netherlands captain Scott Edwards won the toss and decided to bowl first against Bangladesh in Match 27 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on Thursday (June 13). The game is being played at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St Vincent. Both teams are aiming to secure a place in the Super Eight stage of the tournament. Both sides have previously lost to South Africa in this tournament. Due to rain, the toss took place 30 minutes later than usual. Edwards, upon winning the toss, opted to bowl first, likely considering the overcast conditions and the potential for early movement off the pitch.

The reason behind Teja Nidamanuru’s absence

The Netherlands made a single change to their side, bringing in off-spinner Aryan Dutt in place of all-rounder Teja Nidamanuru. Although Edwards did not reveal the exact reason for this change, it is speculated that the spin-friendly conditions observed in the West Indies throughout the tournament influenced this decision. Edwards mentioned that not many teams are familiar with the conditions in St Vincent, suggesting that his team is well-prepared and will give themselves every chance to succeed.

Reflecting on the decision to bowl first, Edwards explained “We are gonna have a bowl first. Not too many international games have been played here recently. Our boys are looking forward to it, we have been playing some good cricket. Aryan Dutt is in for Teja,”

No changes in the Bangladesh side

Bangladesh have decided to field the same team that played against South Africa, remaining unchanged for this crucial match. Najmul Hossain Shanto, at the toss, expressed confidence in batting first, highlighting the good nature of the wicket but also cautioning about the challenges of facing the new ball. He emphasized the advantage of having a leg-spinner, Rishad Hossain, in their ranks.

I don’t mind batting first. Looks a good wicket. With the new ball, we have to be careful. Rishad is very exciting, luckily we have got a leggie. Hope he continues his form. No changes, same XI,” Shanto said at the time of toss.
