A nail-biting encounter at the T20 World Cup 2024 saw India edge past arch-rivals Pakistan by a narrow margin of 6 runs.

India pulls off a nail-biter against Pakistan

Babar Azam, the Pakistani captain, opted to bowl first after winning the toss. Despite Rishabh Pant’s valiant effort of 42 runs, India could only manage a total of 119 runs in their 19 overs. The rest of the Indian batting lineup struggled against Pakistan’s bowling attack.

Pakistan looked promising in their chase, reaching 57 runs for the loss of just 1 wicket in 10 overs. However, the tables turned dramatically as the Indian bowlers tightened their grip. Mohammad Rizwan’s 31-run knock wasn’t enough to save Pakistan, as they fell short of the target, scoring only 113/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Jasprit Bumrah was the hero for India, claiming 3 crucial wickets for just 14 runs.

Unbridled joy in the stands

The Indian victory sparked jubilant celebrations not just on the field but also in the stands. Team India’s reserve players, Rinku Singh, Avesh Khan and Khaleel Ahmed were captured on video by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on platform X (formerly known as Twitter) celebrating the thrilling win with gusto.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah, also present in the stands, couldn’t contain his excitement either. He was seen energetically celebrating India’s triumph, pumping his fists and encouraging the crowd to join in the electrifying atmosphere at New York’s Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.

Jasprit Bumrah recalls critics remarks after his match-winning spell

After his match-winning performance, Indian pace-spearhead Jasprit Bumrah couldn’t help but laugh at the drastic change in the remarks of critics about his career.

“See, a year ago, the same people were saying that I might not play again and my career is over. And now, the question has changed,” stated Bumrah during the post-match press conference.

He attributed his success to focusing on what he can control. “I’m not concerned about whether I’m bowling at my absolute best. I try to solve the problem in front of me. I know it’s a clichéd answer, but I was focusing on the best options for the conditions.”

The 30-year-old added: “If I pay attention to the outside noise, people, and let pressure and emotions take over, things don’t work for me.”
