The much-anticipated T20 World Cup clash between India and Pakistan turned into a nail-biting thriller, with the Men in Blue emerging victorious by a narrow margin of 6 runs.

India struggles with the bat; Pakistan’s dramatic collapse

Pakistan’s bowlers stole the show early on, restricting India to a paltry 119 in their 20 overs. Rishabh Pant’s knock of 42 runs was a lone bright spot for India, as the rest of the batting lineup faltered against a disciplined Pakistani bowling attack. Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah impressed, claiming three wickets apiece, while Mohammad Amir chipped in with two wickets.

Chasing a modest target, Pakistan got off to a decent start but lost their skipper Babar Azam early. Mohammad Rizwan’s gritty 31 runs provided some stability, and at one stage, Pakistan seemed comfortable at 72/2. However, a dramatic collapse ensued, with India’s bowlers taking six wickets for just 40 runs in the death overs.

Jasprit Bumrah was the hero for India, delivering a match-winning spell of 4 wickets for just 13 runs in his four overs. Hardik Pandya also played a crucial role with two wickets.

This heartbreaking loss for Pakistan not only extends their dismal T20 World Cup record against India to 1-7 but also significantly dents their chances of reaching the Super 8 stage of the competition.

T20 World Cup Super 8 Qualification Scenario for Pakistan

Pakistan currently have 0 points after two matches, putting their qualification chances in jeopardy. The team, led by Babar, must win their remaining matches against Canada and Ireland while hoping that neither the United States of America (USA) nor Canada win any more games.

Even if Pakistan wins both matches and the USA loses their remaining two games, advancement to the Super 8 stage will depend on Net Run Rate (NRR). If both teams get tied at 4 points after 4 matches, Pakistan will need several favourable outcomes to proceed.
