In an exciting development for cricket fans, Zimbabwe Cricket have announced that India will tour Zimbabwe for a five-match T20 International series in July. The series will take place just a week after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA, adding to the post-tournament cricketing excitement.
Dates and venue confirmed for the T20I series
The T20I series between Zimbabwe and India is scheduled to take place from July 6 to 14, with all matches set to be held at the Harare Sports Club. Four of the five T20Is will be day games, commencing at 1 pm local time, while the third T20I will be the only night match, starting at 6 pm.
Zimbabwe Cricket expresses excitement for hosting India
Tavengwa Mukuhlani, Chairman of Zimbabwe Cricket, expressed immense enthusiasm about hosting India for the T20I series. In a press release, Mukuhlani emphasized the significance of the tour, highlighting its importance in Zimbabwe’s efforts to regain prominence in international cricket.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be hosting India for a T20I series in July in what will be our biggest international attraction at home this year. The significance and magnitude of this tour cannot be over-emphasised, especially as it is coming at a time we are working round the clock to re-establish ourselves as a force to reckon with at the highest level of the game,” said Mukuhlani in a press release.
India’s previous encounters with Zimbabwe and support for cricket development
India last toured Zimbabwe for three ODIs in August 2022, clinching victory with a clean sweep. Since then, the teams have met only once, during the T20 World Cup in Australia later that year. Despite Zimbabwe’s recent absence from major tournaments, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah emphasized India’s commitment to supporting Zimbabwe Cricket in its rebuilding phase.
“The BCCI has always played a pioneering role in contributing to the global cricketing community. We understand that it is a period of rebuilding for Zimbabwe, and Zimbabwe Cricket needs our support at this juncture,” said Shah.
BCCI’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cricket
Shah reiterated the BCCI’s commitment to fostering bilateral cricket and supporting fellow member boards. He emphasized the BCCI’s dedication to contributing positively to the global cricketing landscape, aiming to make bilateral cricket stronger and commercially more viable.
“Our steadfast commitment to touring and supporting fellow member boards aligns with our principle of bringing about a positive transformation within the cricketing landscape. The BCCI will do its best to make bilateral cricket stronger and commercially more viable,” Shah added.
